Deep Tissue helps to readjust deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue to alleviate muscle tension or injury. I always begin the deep tissue massage with lighter pressure so that the muscles have time to warm. Then I slowly begin to apply more pressure on the muscles. It is important to note that if deep pressure is applied at the very beginning of the massage, then the muscles will naturally respond by tightening for protection. This could result in more physical discomfort and possibly injury. Therefore the deep tissue massage will instead begin with less pressure and progressively move into deeper modes. Some important benefits of deep tissue massage are an increased range of motion, better flexibility, improved blood circulation, and reduced stiffness.
