Myofascial massage releases adhered fascia - a thin sheath of fibrous tissue under the skin that encloses the muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and restoring a sense of balance. This is accomplished by massaging the myofascia while feeling for stiff or tightened areas. I begin the myofascial massage by stretching the areas that feel rigid with light pressure. Then I begin aiding the tissue and supportive sheath in releasing pressure and tightness.
